Then it is our pleasure to invite you to the GMO-free Europe Conference 2015 on May 6th – 8th in Berlin.
This conference marks the tenth anniversary since our first GMO-free Regions conference in Berlin in 2005. For the first time we jointly organize this conference with 62 governments of the GMO-free Regions Network and the Danube Soya business and farmers association. There will be joint sessions as well as a dedicated NGO day on May 7th.
Main topics on the agenda are national bans of GMO cultivation implementing the recent EU opt-out legislation; a European GMO-free protein strategy; new GM technologies, their legal status, traceability and risk assessment; the impact of TTIP and other trade agreements on food, feed and seed; “low level presence” (contamination) of GMO in seed and food; the EU and G7 strategy to introduce GMOs into Africa. We are also preparing a joint “Berlin declaration” of civil society, governments, business and scientists and we are still open for your contributions.

1) Freihandelsabkommen TTIP zwischen der EU und den USA: Chlorhühner, noch mehr Gentechnik und Hormonfleisch warten. Denn die US-Regierung hat klare Vorstellungen, die sie auch veröffentlicht: „Wir wollen … Hemmnisse eliminieren oder reduzieren, die die Möglichkeiten für US-Exporte verringern. …. <Mit TTIP> werden Europäer sicheres, hochqualitatives US-Rind-, Schweine-, Geflügelfleisch und andere Produkte genießen
können ….“[1] Von der EU und den Regierungschefs ist – wenn überhaupt – nur verbaler Widerstand zu erwarten. Zu sehr hängen alle am Gängelband der Lobbys. Der sicherste Weg, TTIP zu verhindern, ist der Austritt aus der EU.

Determined Farmers Keep Up the Pressure on Polish Prime Minister
On 25 February 2015, a letter was delivered to the Prime Minister of Poland, Ewa Kopasz, calling for immediate action in support of farmers demands that still remain unaddressed.
Prime Minister Kopasz was also presented with a basket of illegal traditional Polish farm foods, by ICPPC director and Goldman Prize laureate Jadwiga Lopata and ICPPC President Sir Julian Rose, accompanied by leaders of the Solidarity farmers union and a group of farmers. The food basket highlights the call to scrap the exceptionally harsh food regulatory codes that currently prevent Polish farmers selling their traditional on-farm processed foods.
Family farmers from different regions of Poland have been occupying the area outside the Prime Ministers Palace in Warsaw for the last week. Sympathisers are bringing quality farm foods and other items to their Green City pavement camp which has been standing since 19 February.
Attempts to subvert the farmers demands continue, with a notable lack of reporting of the main issues. Instead, emphasis has been placed on calls by Senator Isdebski for farms affected by wild pig damage to be compensated.
At the Warsaw Green City, the determined farmers, coming together under the Solidarity banner, continue to demand: NO to GMO No to land grabs YES to real farm foods!
Sir Julian Rose, President ICPPC said:
Its a critical situation. The protesting farmers represent the last line of resistance against corporate and government collusion in the domination of Polish agriculture with its attendant destruction of the biodiversity of the food chain and farmers basic lively-hoods.
